Rainbow Warrior

My friend, Anna Mastrapolo, is an amazing artist. She is in the last semester of her MFA at Vermont College of Visual Arts . She made this dress for me!

It is an honor to have one of her creations. Isn’t it delightful!

Rainbow Warrior, dress and collar, photo taken in front of the TN State Capital in protest of the anti-trans laws, 2021

I live in a suburb of Nashville, TN where anti-trans legislation, voter suppression, and anti-choice laws dominate. There is a weaving of white supremacy into the fabric of our state. Just recently a new bill to ban the teaching of anti-racism/privilege was introduced. Yet another blow to equity in our state. I am outraged for the consequences these harmful bills pose for the good people of my home state.

Thanks for following and allowing me to rant a little in my beautiful dress!

The work is inspired by an engagement with play and making peace with uncertainty. I work experimentally, using a digital video to explore painting. I use sound and moving images in non-traditional ways to reverse expectations of horror and comedy. I am drawn to the whimsical nature of self-discovery. I construct repeating narratives, often depicting varying scenarios of serenity, silliness, and reflection.
