Winter Residency Submission

I had to have the images for the Winter 2021 MFA candidate exhibition ready today. I am showing this panel of paintings in the gallery and a 5 min video in the durée. This my first time to present an animation. Thank you for following my art journey. More details about the opening to follow.

Winter 2021 MFA Exhibition

It’s that time of year again to decide what work should go into the winter exhibition. In the last six months, I’ve completed 75 6×8 inch oil paintings on linen. Now I must somehow narrow that number down to an 8×10 ft wall. Because the exhibition is completely digital, I will create a digital collage ofContinue reading “Winter 2021 MFA Exhibition”

painting everyday

In some ways, stop motion animation is less rigid and meditative than a 24×24 hyperreal oil painting. Something is freeing about whimsically painting as the notion strikes. I am spending more time in the studio. Instead of cramming hours of painting into one sitting and then not painting again for a few days. I findContinue reading “painting everyday”

deconstructing formative life-experiences

Where will my studio work take me this semester? The work is about the process of deconstructing formative life experiences. My studio process always involves life experiences. First Mailing complete

Every semester of grad school, we have to write 3 mailings. We choose our own research material with help from our faculty advisor and artist mentors. I also watched Persona,Continue reading “First Mailing complete”

Last Days of the Exhibition

The residency is over. It was another great one, although different because it was completely online, like the exhibition. It always takes a few days to process all the information the online residency was no exception. As a way to process that information, I made several photoshopped documents to record the moments. These are theContinue reading “Last Days of the Exhibition”

Overcast reading

School is winding down. The grades recorded. My graduate evaluations complete. When the weather is rainy and overcast, there is little to do besides, eat, sleep, talk to the cat, care for my plants, or read. I’ve been doing some light, fun reading. I played the piano for an hour (sorry neighbors). I even wroteContinue reading “Overcast reading”
