Last Days of the Exhibition

The residency is over. It was another great one, although different because it was completely online, like the exhibition. It always takes a few days to process all the information the online residency was no exception. As a way to process that information, I made several photoshopped documents to record the moments. These are theContinue reading “Last Days of the Exhibition”

Overcast reading

School is winding down. The grades recorded. My graduate evaluations complete. When the weather is rainy and overcast, there is little to do besides, eat, sleep, talk to the cat, care for my plants, or read. I’ve been doing some light, fun reading. I played the piano for an hour (sorry neighbors). I even wroteContinue reading “Overcast reading”

Painting light and class

My work is inspired by an intimate contemplation of multigenerational poverty.┬áRooted in the Western still life genre, the imagery is based on personal family artifacts and domestic scenes, while often including the representation of inexpensive, nonnutritive food – illustrating the allure of false bounty. The varying lighting scenarios offer moments of beauty and illumination, butContinue reading “Painting light and class”

Studio work

My goals for the studio this weekend were to add details to current work and create a new piece. Despite the heat I made progress. I still haven’t worked out the details on how to describe this relief work (I know, I will sort that outing time). Here is a preview of what I’m workingContinue reading “Studio work”

Painting cellophane

Started a painting yesterday of a skull wrapped in cellophane. This is the second painting which I ‘ve attempted to paint an object wrapped in cellophane. Here is a photo of the work in progress. Cellophane is not exactly fun to paint. I think this may be the last item I wrap and paint. IContinue reading “Painting cellophane”

New painting

I started a new painting. I love starting something new. It’s completely exhilarating. I love solving visual problems. it’s the finishing of a painting that isn’t as fun. Knowing when to add more paint and when to stop is a delicate balance. This painting is NOT finished. I also love to paint shiny things. MyContinue reading “New painting”

Visual Culture project

I did it. I submitted the proposal for my visual culture project for my first semester at Vermont College of Fine Arts. I am thrilled to finally begin this journey. I have wanted to work toward an MFA in Visual Art for so long, I can’t remember a time when the idea wasn’t bouncing aroundContinue reading “Visual Culture project”

Painting Modesty

Working on a new painting. This one is 12×12 inch oil on panel of a white sheet, a speculum, and a conch shell. I had the idea to paint a speculum a few weeks ago. Last week I painted a conch shell wrapping shrink wrap. Painting the shell was challenging . I thought I wouldContinue reading “Painting Modesty”
